Yiorgos Tsangaris was born in 1976. He studied Graphic Arts at The London Institute/The London College of Printing and Animation Filmmaking at the University of the West of England-Bristol School of Animation.
Since 1999 he has been designing artistic posters and publications, mainly for theatre, music and independent cinema. He has also designed numerous book editions in Cyprus and abroad. He has represented Cyprus with his posters at Biennales and many other international events.
He has collaborated with Thessaloniki Film Festival, designing posters and publications for the 8th, 9th and 10th editions of Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. In 2006 he received the prestigious EVGE award (Greek awards of Graphic design and Illustration) for his design of the book covers of Gutenberg editions in Athens.
He has served on the jury committees of the Cyprus state awards for literature (illustration) and the awards of Graphic Arts and Illustration of Greece (EVGE), as well as of a number of international animation festivals, including the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
He is the founder and artistic director of Countryside Animafest Cyprus- Views of the World, -The International Animation Festival of Cyprus- (founded in 2002), the first of its kind in Cyprus and the official festival for the promotion of animation cinema in this country. He is a founding member of “Hambis Printmaking Museum” and a member of the international board of ASIFA (Association International du Film d ‘Animation) , the founder of the Cyprus chapter of ASIFA and a lecturer in Graphic Arts (Printmaking) and Animation at the Fine Arts Program of the University of Nicosia.
